During a project in my 3rd year at university, we were tasked with designing and developing an output from a previous project. The project that I chose to develop used NFC (near-field communication) to transfer small amounts of data between objects. The project was not best suited for further development so I decided to use the same technology, NFC, and incorporate it into a novel product.
wificonnect is designed for use in hospitality, specifically restaurants and cafes, and uses NFC to allow customers instant connection to the WiFi. By incorporating the NFC capability into a table centre piece, it provides the product with dual purpose. The device can be customised to be a table number, a condiment holder, or a menu stand, whilst offering the user instant access to the establishment’s WiFi.
